1980 NT Government granted $43,650 to Arafura Bowls & Social Club Inc

Overdraft from CBCBank was $15,000
& loan from Alan White was $25,000
cleared from above grant now
Arafura Bowls & Social Club Inc
has to operate at a profit
& keep up payments on plant & equipment to
Commercial & General Acceptance Ltd (CAGA)

President Ross attempted to keep debts to manageable levels

1979 February AGM President Ross said he would write to all members giving them "State of the Nation" update on Arafura Bowls Club (ABC) :-
1979 1st 6 months since AGM :- 19790831 Ross wrote & said:-
1. introduced social membership
2. now have 110 Social Members including members of:-
a) Darwin Bridge Club
b) Government Printing Office
c) Bank officers participating in Tuesday Social Bowls
2. highly successful ABC Carnival in every way thanks to help from Elliotts for the fine music Max Meers & ladies in the kitchen & Bob Whitelaw
3. Championships completed
4. NTDBA championships to start in September 1979
5. Monthly social nights planned Dick Dean has some ideas
6. Reduced payment of accounts from 140 days August 1978 to 45 days August 1979
7. 19791231 $5,000 to be repaid to Bank
8. 1979 February AGM voted 50c pw levy to help repay the above $5,000 so this levy must be paid to keep membership & voting rights
9. ABC has borrowed money privately to repay at call debentures
10. ABC now owes :-
a) CBC Bank $15,000 $5,000 to be repaid 19791231
b) Private Loan $25,000 of which :-
i. $7,500 is being paid back at principal + interest by 19820228
ii. $17,500 interest only to be reviewed 19820228
11.ABC Committee believe current debenture money is for long term therefore ABC is only paying interest
12. Carpets furniture etc purchased on lease during 1977 are due for payout in 1981
13. 1979 coring machine & safety lights purchased on lease & urn in kitchen replaced
14. $480 outlaid to purchase & install safe with combination
15. Members supplying labour to man the bar at night
16. ABC will shortly receive title to property from Arafura Hostel with one building which will help in many ways

19810118 Special General Meeting called by 10 members to change consitution to allow President to remain for more than 2 years & discuss utilisation of land & facilities acquired in recent extension of the club lease

19810331 $10 paid by Jo for social membership fee to 19820131

19820207 membership renewal reminder received including advice of improvement of the club's viability

19920616 Ross was President of NT Taxi Council

1997 Noel Bartlem died

Alf Brien died
Don Stewart died

1998 June was approx date of last visit to a bowls club by Dick Dean

1998 Ross Walters was fighting cancer
1998 Ross Walters died aged 70

20011124 Saturday N T News 79 yo Rose Sandery had all jewellery stolen when thieves broke in to her granny flat after breaking into her daughters house next door at Moulden Palmerston

Dean Stephens shot himself in his backyard of his Larrakeya home

ABC liabilities were $380,000 approximately

20020925 N T News said Frank Stewart said redesign of clubhouse increased liabilities by $120,000 & the only chance for ABC to survive would be a $500,000 grant fron NT Gov
